Greetings to our friends and community members!
We are pleased to announce the formation of Firewheel Foundation – a group of concerned citizens dedicated to supporting the greater good of all residents of Snohomish County, and beyond!
In the heart of downtown Everett, there is a warm, friendly coffee and book shop which has served during the past year as a haven for those who love to read, dream, and engage in meaningful, intelligent conversation. Many groups of all flavors – from knitting to book study to musical performance to politics – have found a comfortable meeting place there. Firewheel Books and Beans has been a familiar stop in the Everett Art Walk, and the walls and shelves feature a variety of unique local artistic creation.
The owners of Firewheel have recently made a decision to relocate out of the area, and our beloved gathering place will be sold. Rather than lose this great center for the community, why not move to have the community become the new owners? And hence, our foundation was born. Our mission statement is as follows
The Firewheel Foundation is a non-profit, non-partisan, environmentally-conscious worker-owned and operated organization, dedicated to strengthening the working class community by empowering people through the provision of safe and accessible meeting spaces for community activities and education.
We are excitedly discussing what could be. One local non-profit has expressed interest in working with us to provide job training for at-risk youth, enabling them to more successfully join society as they become adults. Classes and seminars could be held to increase awareness of current issues and generate participation by citizens in becoming part of the process of self-governance. There are so many possibilities, and such immense potential for Firewheel to help make our world a better place.
We who are in the beginning stages of the Foundation are working class people, and we will pour time and effort into beginning this venture, but we will not be able to pull it off without financial help from our fellow citizens. We are asking if you would like to help us keep this community gathering place open. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated and would truly be a positive investment in your community
Thank you from your friends at the Firewheel Books & Beans and the Firewheel Foundation.
